Slab and Table Surfacing & Milling
Professional Precision for Every Project
At Live Edge Exclusives, true craftsmanship begins with an uncompromising foundation. I’ve invested in a commercial-grade Jointa Wood slab flattening machine to ensure that every custom piece we produce meets the highest standards of structural stability and precision. As part of our commitment to supporting the regional woodworking community, we open this equipment up to local woodshops, furniture makers, hobbyists, and weekend warriors. Whether you are prepping a massive dining table or flattening a DIY epoxy project, our shop brings industrial capability to your custom builds.
Technical Machine Capabilities & Specs
Our Jointa Wood surfacing setup allows us to flatten oversized slabs and timbers with extreme accuracy. We can handle slabs up to 70 inches wide, 14.5 feet long, and 11 inches thick, accommodating even the largest local lumber cuts. The twelve inch helical head contains 81 carbide knives and the integrated drum sander is fitted with 120 grit paper. Beyond flat face surfacing, our machine’s integrated router accessory allows us to perform edge jointing for seamless glue-up preparation, as well as precise miter cuts required for waterfall tables and benches.
Transparent Pricing & Billing
We offer straightforward, flat-rate pricing designed to accommodate projects of any scale. Surfacing services are billed at $125 per hour or $8.50 per square foot (which covers surfacing on both top and bottom faces). Please note that standard North Carolina sales tax applies to all services unless appropriate, current NC Tax Code exemption forms (such as Form E-595) are provided prior to work commencing.
Material Requirements & Metal Policy
To safeguard our equipment and maintain a clean shop environment, all incoming wood must be kiln-dried below 10% moisture content (MC) and have undergone a verified bug kill cycle. Slabs will be thoroughly scanned with a metal detector upon arrival. If embedded metal—such as nails, screws, fencing, or wire—is detected, the additional labor time required for safe extraction will be added to your final bill at our hourly shop rate.
Shop Terms & Booking
Wood is an organic material, and flattening releases internal stress that may occasionally cause subtle wood movement or cracking as the piece relaxes; Live Edge Exclusives is not liable for natural wood movement occurring post-surfacing. Completed orders must be picked up within 7 business days of completion unless prior storage arrangements have been made.
