While early carpenters relied on this intense process to protect exterior shelters from warping and decay, the chemical and physical properties of the char offer incredible applications for high-end furniture. The flames completely transform the wood, leaving an iridescent, jet-black canvas where natural features like curl and figuring still proudly show through.
